August is a very quiet month for most businesses, especially the small ones like us! As we have two schools within minutes of our shop, once they all go off on their holidays, things get pretty quiet on our street! Usually we use this time to take a break and we shut up shop for a week-ish, as many of the other businesses on our street do too. However as we are so busy this year on the weekends, with lots of hen parties to celebrate and weddings to cater for, we will still have to be here on weekends, so this rules out us closing for a week or two – so as we did last year, for all the same reasons, we will only be opening on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays in August. We will therefore be closed all Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays in August.  Normal hours will resume again on Friday September 1st. However we will still be around, we use this time to of course have a rest, but we also do some cleaning and some decorating and make sure everything here is ship shape and up to date! so if you have any queries, you want to order or book something, please do still call us and leave a message or email us, we will be checking emails daily so send us your requests! Thank you for your patience and understanding and we look forward to all the cake filled weekends in August and seeing you there! xxxx

We had a fabulous evening last Wednesday at the Tricycle Cinema where we joint hosted a ‘cupcakes and cocktails’ evening before a screening of the new Sex and the city 2 film.

All 300 guests enjoyed cosmopolitans and kir royals served by the Tricycle bar and a cosmopolitan cupcake from bake-a-boo. We then got the watch the film too, and despite the bad reveiews there was lots of laughter and cheers all round.

I wore my favourite pink shoes to match the cupcakes, but there were far more girls dressed way more fabulously than me for the occassion – it was a great atmosphere, a truly girly evening. We have really enjoyed working with the Tricycle theatre and hope to work with them again soon.

We are celebrating the release of Sex and the city 2 in full force at bake-a-boo! We are hosting some fun events in collaboration with the Tricycle cinema – THE place to watch the film! As well as our exclusive Sex and the city themed afternoon tea, which runs from the 28th May-27th June (details can be found here), we are hosting the following events to get you in the Sex and the City spirit! All events must be booked at paid for in advance – please call us, or the Tricycle (according the guidance for each event) to book your place.

Sex and the city tea party at bake-a-boo

Book to enjoy the Sex and the city afternoon tea at bake-a-boo between 4pm and 6pm, where we will be projecting some of the old favourite episodes all afternoon, and we will have our fabulous dressing up box open to all for the duration of the afternoon for added glamour! Then catch the 8pm showing of the film at the tricycle cinema, and enjoy a complimentary glass of wine or soft drink in the Tricycle bar before the film.

Tickets are priced at £30 per person and include the Sex and the city afternoon tea experience at bake-a-boo, as well as your cinema ticket and complimentary drink at the Tricycle cinema. Tickets must be booked in advance through bake-a-boo.

Our two local schools beckford and Emmanuel will be polling stations this thursday – when your off to cast your vote, why not pop into bake-a-boo and cast your vote through cupcakes!! On election day this Thursday 6th May we will have Red, Blue and Yellow cupcakes to represent the three main parties and then a neutral cupcake – come and have to election fun with us and see if our cupcake sales reflect the outcome!! All parties welcome!!! xx

Crochet for beginners

With Claire of make do mend

The aims of the class are teach the basics of crochet. There will be no finished item as such, but the participants could aim to finish a simple scarf pattern (which will be included in the worksheets) after the workshop from the knowledge learned.

The course will offer guidance and worksheets on stitch techniques; chain, double crochet, treble and half treble. Some learners may progress further, in which case the tutor will be happy to show variations.

Make.Do.Mend. will supply the hook and a ball of yarn for each participant to take away and continue practice.

£30 per person – Includes all materials. Cake and tea will also be served throughout the workshop

Here are some pictures from our lovely beginners knitting class. Being so close to Easter, the class had a quirky Easter theme and the girls, and guys! knitted cute eggs cosys in chicks and bunnies (so cute!) and some were even glammed up chicks like this one which was embellished with a string of pearls! All the knitters enjoyed tea and cake whilst knitting, and there were moments of complete silence as the concentration levels were so high. We had some complete beginners and some people with some knitting experience and Claire, our lovely knitting teacher is able to cater for all levels. We can’t wait for Claire from make.do.mend to come back for beginners crochet class at the end of the month on the 26th April. We have also collaborated with Claire to offer knitting as part of our hen party packages for the more creative hens!

In this workshop children (8 years +) will learn how to cast on, knit and cast off. They will be able to customise their knitting with buttons, fabrics and pompoms or maybe even transform their knitting into a wonky creature or alien ! They will be able to take home their project along with their needles so they can continue to practice.

The ‘menders are really looking forward to teaching you how to knit cute egg cosies just in time for a whimsical and truly unique Easter gift. A great class for beginners, those who have just started to knit, are rusty or even just fancy making cute cosies to keep their Easter Sunday boiled eggs warm while they take them up to breakfast in bed for a loved one. Learn to knit, purl, cast on, cast off and to make cosies which you can then decorate as you wish, using buttons and embellishments provided.

Tea and cake will be served during the workshop.

Speaking of Liz from Blue Sky flowers – We have collaborated with her, not only for the workshop but you can order flowers from her to be collected from bake-a-boo on Saturday 13th or Sunday 14th. She will make you a gorgeous hand tied bouquet, that you can order and pick up from us, along with some cakes if you like! Or if you are booked in for tea or breakfast with us on Sunday, then we can bring them to your table.

Liz is offering a beautiful hand tied bouquet comprising a mix of Roses, Lilies, Freesia and fragrant Eucalyptus foliage in a cream bag and you can choose from a white mix, pink mix or bright (as seen in photo), in different sized bouquets priced at £25, £35 or £45

If you don’t get organised for this, we will have a selection of Liz’s beautiful bouquets on sale at bake-a-boo on Saturday 13th March for you to pick up along with a treat for your mum. You will find a range of bouquets outside bake-a-boo from 10am on Saturday.

On Sunday 7^th of March we held a mad hatters tea party at bake-a-boo.

The event went on from 12pm-5pm and started with a fascinator making workshop hosted by milliner and dear friend of bake-a-boo Vicky Rowe, of clarabows.co.uk. Vicky travelled from Bristol to share her exciting boxes filled with vintage treasures, beads, pearls and trinkets as well as cruelty free feathers for the guests to make their own fabulous fascinators, the guests could then wear their fascinators whilst enjoying a full afternoon tea with an Alice in wonderland theme, prepared by bake-a-boo.

The tea included, finger sandwiches, scones with jam and cream, heart jam tarts, chocolate dipped strawberries, mini heart brownies, and ‘eat me’ inscripted cupcakes. Tea was, of course served throughout the day, as fascinator making is thirsty work.

There was also a group of girls who attented the event who took part as for a hen party, and the bride to be made two fascinators, one to wear for her actual wedding, and a second to wear for the evening party of her wedding.

It was a truly delightful afternoon, enjoyed by all. I just cannot wait to do it all again! *hint hint* (Vicky) xx
